WORKSHOP ON PARTICIPATIVE LEADERSHIP IN RANCHI

A workshop was organized by Indian Christian Women’s Movement (ICWM) at Xavier’s Institute of Social Service, at Ranchi on 16th & 17th March 2015. The participants were a mixed group of men and women, who were Professors, students of masters programs, religious women and men. There were 80 participants and a good number of them were young men and women who had so many questions on various issues especially pertaining to women and religion. The Resource persons of the workshop were Sr. Julie George SSpS, Director, Streevani, Ms. Raynah Braganza, Convener, ICWM and Sr. Lalita Lakra DSA. Sr. Julie George while situating the workshop explained the current situation of women and the urgency to have a united voice of Christian women in India, hence the need for a movement, like Indian Christian Women’s Movement (ICWM).


At the inaugural message Fr. Marianus SJ, the Provincial of Ranchi highlighted how women are being the victims of displacement and development. He also dwelt up on Witch hunting, which is an indirect method to grab land. He stressed that equal discipleship is the need of the day. The church and the society both benefit, when the gifts and talents of both men and women are recognized. The concluding session was a short video where 3 eminent women spoke about their own personal experiences as women, which summed up all that was being discussed for two days.
